Fluoroscopy Safety for OR Staff

This intermediate-level continuing education course provides registered nurses and OR staff with essential knowledge of fluoroscopy safety principles and radiation protection in the operating room environment. Learners will understand the fundamentals of ionizing radiation, including dose measurement, exposure risks, and the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle. The course covers proper use of protective equipment such as lead aprons, thyroid shields, and leaded glasses, as well as safe positioning practices during fluoroscopy-guided procedures. Topics include regulatory requirements, documentation responsibilities, and the role of the perioperative nurse in minimizing radiation exposure for patients, staff, and the healthcare team.
